Case Study: Capturing Mediplus with a Focus on Cleanliness and Precision

When Mediplus, a medical company with a long history of innovation, approached me for a photography project, they needed a series of images that would truly reflect the heart of their work. Specializing in medical devices for Anaesthesia, Gynaecology, and Urology, Mediplus has won numerous awards, including two Queen’s Awards. The company wanted a variety of shots for their website and client catalogues, from product photography to portraits of their leadership team.

The Challenge

The project presented a unique challenge. Mediplus’ production rooms are extremely sterile environments, so I had to work under strict cleanliness protocols. My job was to capture the atmosphere of precision and care that defines Mediplus, but with minimal equipment. At the same time, they also needed corporate portraits and behind-the-scenes shots of their team in action, which required a different approach.

My Approach

With the cleanroom photography, my first priority was ensuring I could work in the environment without compromising its standards. I carefully selected only essential equipment—a wide-angle 16-35mm lens and a 55mm medium lens—knowing that I had to make the most of limited tools. I was required to wear sterile clothing, including a face mask and hair covering, to comply with the production area's strict hygiene rules.

Once inside, I focused on capturing the layout of the room and the equipment, highlighting the cleanliness and meticulous attention to detail. Every part of the production process had to reflect Mediplus' commitment to high standards.

For the corporate portraits, I worked in a more traditional office setting. I aimed to capture authentic, approachable images of the senior team members—directors and senior staff who lead the company. These portraits were designed to bring out their professionalism while giving a glimpse of the people behind Mediplus’ success.

Finally, for the product photography, the challenge was capturing the precision and quality of Mediplus' devices in a way that would look sharp and professional in both the website and catalogue.

The Result

The final images successfully captured both the technical and human aspects of Mediplus. By working closely with their team, I delivered a mix of cleanroom shots, corporate portraits, and product photography that aligned with their brand's values. It was a rewarding experience to adapt my usual workflow to meet the needs of such a specialized environment, and I’m pleased that the photos now help Mediplus communicate their story to clients across the world.
